Enjoyed reading of your travels and all the great pics... I am considering a new KLR and came across all the mods you did to yours....very useful and informative...
will look forward to reading more of your travels in the future..
p.s.... we lived in Great Falls in 1986 and now are back in North Dakota (not far from Grand Forks) so a bit of a coincidence....

Continued...

I don't have hard luggage because it doesn't suit my style of riding, I'd have ripped them off years ago! The Alpha bag is easy to put on and take off when I needed it for long trips. Other than that I have a bungy net on the back rack that holds a duffle bag which I use for day to day stuff.
Thanks,
Doug

Hey All,
Glad to see people getting some usefull information out of my site. As for some of the comments here:
Thankfully it is not swamp land behind me, it is a spring fed pond, no outflow or inflow from anywhere else, also no alligators and plenty of catfish, bream, and bass! I've had the locking nut on the front and rear axles for several years and several thousand miles and have never had it loosen on me, it is a fuji style locking nut, "crimped" on three sides.

Great info. Thanks. Ive been waiting 31 years to get on a bike again. Last time I was on a bike I was a teenage punk, it almost killed me. As bad as it was, good did come out of it. Fast forward to March 09, I just bought a 2004 KLR. Have to go pick it up in Montreal in two weeks. I can't wait is an understatement!
